Mr. Markakos received his B.A. in Political Science and minored in History and Philosophy from Loyola University of Chicago in 1990. In 1993 he was awarded his Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law. Mr. Markakos was admitted to practice law by the Illinois Supreme Court in 1993. Mr. Markakos is a member of the Federal North District of Illinois regular and trial bar. Further, Mr. Markakos has been admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court.In 1994 he joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he served until 2001. Since 2001, Mr. Markakos has been engaged in the private practice of law, principally involved in criminal defense. Mr. Markakos has successfully defended citizens accused of even the most serious crimes. Mr. Markakos has successfully defended persons accused of crimes in numerous bench and jury trials.While an Assistant State’s Attorney, Mr. Markakos served in the following units of the office:Traffic Division: Prosecuted all traffic related offenses outlined in the Illinois Vehicle Code including Driving While Suspended and Driving Under the Influence. Felony Review Unit: Participated in police investigations and making charging decisions in felony prosecutions. Participated in the procurement of defendant confessions, both oral and written.Criminal Prosecutions Bureau: Member of Narcotic Prosecution Team, and conducted numerous courtroom criminal prosecutions including both bench and jury trials. Juvenile Justice Bureau: Prosecuted cases of Juvenile Delinquency, including serious felony classification matters and murder.Mr. Markakos is fluent in Greek.
